#NDMAPK WAS ENTRUSTED WITH THE RESPONSIBILITY TO PROCURE COVID-19 VACCINE ON EMERGENCY BASIS IN JUN, 2021

#NDMApk was entrusted with the responsibility to procure Covid-19 vaccine on emergency basis in Jun, 2021. NDMA successfully managed to procure around 167 Mn Covid vaccine doses for over 100 Mn people. Fast-paced, uninterrupted supply by NDMA, enabled #Pakistan to achieve desired target of vaccinating population by 31 Dec, 2021.

ANOTHER CONSIGNMENT OF 15 MN DOSES OF SINOVAC VACCINE (14 MN PROCURED BY NDMA & 1 MN AS DONATION) HAS ARRIVED IN PAKISTAN B/W 10 - 15 DEC 21 AND HANDED OVER TO MONHSR&C.

 

 

Another consignment of 15 Mn doses of SinoVac vaccine (14 Mn procured by NDMA & 1 Mn as donation) has arrived in Pakistan b/w 10 - 15 Dec 21 and handed over to MoNHSR&C.

NDMA ORGANIZED ANNUAL POST MONSOON REVIEW CONFERENCE – 2021.

 

 

NDMA organized Annual Post Monsoon Review Conference – 2021. Officials from all relevant departments participated. An overall review of Monsoon – 2021 covering preparations, damages & lessons learnt was presented.Satisfaction displayed over the measures taken for Monsoon 2021. Emphasis was laid on timely and comprehensive measures to deal with disasters in future. Climate change resultant disaster threat calls for timely and comprehensive measures by all concerned departments, Chairman NDMA highlighted.

KOREAN AMBASSADOR SUH SANGPYO ON BEHALF OF GOVERNMENT OF REPUBLIC OF KOREA, HANDED OVER COVID RELATED MEDICAL EQUIPMENT TO NDMA.

 

 

Korean Ambassador Suh Sangpyo on behalf of Government of Republic of Korea, handed over Covid related medical equipment to NDMA. The equipment consisted of over 2000 Covid test kits, 5 ventilators and 10 oxygen concentrators.Dr. Nausheen Hamid the Parliamentary Secretary Health graced the occasion as Chief Guest. The Korean Ambassador appreciated Pakistan Government’s successful response to Covid 19 and emphasized the need for greater cooperation amongst countries to combat Covid 19 pandemic.

ASIA-PACIFIC REGIONAL INTERNATIONAL EARTHQUAKE RESPONSE SIMULATION EXERCISE (INSARAG) 2021 IS BEING HOSTED ONLINE BY CHINA FROM 24 TO 26 NOV 2021

 

 

Asia-Pacific Regional International Earthquake Response Simulation Exercise (INSARAG) 2021 is being hosted online by China from 24 to 26 Nov 2021. NDMA along with all PDMA reps, Urban Search & Rescue team, 1122, Pak Army, CDA and KMC reps are participating in this online INSARAG from Lahore, Pakistan. Aim of the exercise is to increase awareness and practice disaster response methodologies amongst national and local authorities of host country and international responders as endorsed by INSARAG Guidelines.

CHAIRMAN NDMA REPRESENTED PAKISTAN IN ONLINE BELT & ROAD MINISTERIAL FORUM FOR INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION ORGANIZED BY MINISTRY OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OF CHINA

 

 

Chairman NDMA represented Pakistan in online Belt & Road Ministerial Forum for International Cooperation organized by Ministry of Emergency Management of China. Forum was organised to buildup international cooperation in disaster risk reduction and emergency management. Chairman NDMA highlighted the need to strengthen Disaster Risk Management System and mechanism to protect economic and social development. Participating countries adopted the Beijing Declaration with consensus on promoting cooperation in resilience, DRR and management

NDMA, WITH THE SUPPORT OF SDMA & UNDP, ORGANIZED A ONE-DAY PROVINCIAL CONSULTATION SESSION ON SFDRR IN MUZAFFARABAD.

 

 

NDMA, with the support of SDMA & UNDP, organized a one-day Provincial Consultation Session on SFDRR in Muzaffarabad. The session was attended by participants from multiple provincial depts and provided valuable inputs to implement DRR Strategy in AJ&K.

NDMA/ PARLIAMENTARIAN CAUCUS

 

 

NDMA/ Parliamentarian Caucus NDMA in collaboration with Ministry of National Food Security & Research and Ministry of Climate Change organized a parliamentarian caucus. Senators, members of national and provincial assemblies, officials from international agencies, humanitarian networks and Director Generals of Provincial Disaster Management Authorities participated in the caucus.Aim of the caucus was to highlight the role of parliamentarians in disaster management. Federal ministers Syed Fakher Imam, Hammad Azhar and Minister of State Zartaj Gul also participated in the caucus.Emphasis was laid on raising public awareness on disaster prevention at the provincial level. Participants pledged to play a constructive role in disaster management.

TO MARK 8 OCT AS "NATIONAL RESILIENCE DAY" AND 13 OCT AS "INTERNATIONAL DISASTER RISK REDUCTION DAY", NDMA ORGANISED A NUMBER OF ACTIVITIES THROUGHOUT THE WEEK.

 

 

To mark 8 Oct as "National Resilience Day" and 13 Oct as "International Disaster Risk Reduction Day", NDMA organised a number of activities throughout the week. The activities included Basic First Aid Training in 42 schools of Islamabad in collaboration with Rescue 1122, Tree Plantaion, City Branding and Seminar. The week was marked to create awareness amongst the masses regarding need for "Disaster Risk Reduction".

NDMA dispatched relief goods assistance for Earthquake affectees of Harnai, Balochstan. Relief assistance includes 150 Tents, 150 Tarpaulin, 750 Blankets & 750 Mosquito Nets.

NDMA ORGANIZED A ONE-DAY NATIONAL SEMINAR “TOWARDS A DISASTER RESILIENT PAKISTAN” IN THE CONTEXT OF 8TH OCT BEING CELEBRATED AS ‘NATIONAL RESILIENCE DAY’

 

 

NDMA organized a one-day National Seminar titled “Towards a Disaster Resilient Pakistan”, here in Islamabad today.  

Islamabad; 7 October, 2021: The Government of Pakistan observes 8th Oct as ‘National Resilience Day’ every year to express solidarity with victims of 2005 earthquake and all past disasters. This year the day is marked with the motto 

“ ہمارا عزم آفات سے محفو ظ پاکستان، مضبوط پاکستان

In order to commemorate the National Resilience Day, a day-long seminar titled “Towards a Disaster Resilient Pakistan” was organized by NDMA in collaboration with UNDP & ADPC here today in Islamabad. 

The seminar was aimed to provide a platform to create and develop a relevant dialogue focused on climate change, disaster management role of humanitarian communities and coping with health emergencies. It also emphasized importance of community engagement, risk awareness and role of media with regards to disaster management. 

At opening session Chairman NDMA Lt. General Akhter Nawaz Satti welcomed all participants-attendees and highlighted the importance of the Day. He specially mentioned about today’s 5.9 magnitude earthquake that hit area of Baluchistan Harnai today at 0300 am and said that “we share the grief of the families who lost their loved ones and those injured, rescue and relief activities have already started”. The Chairman later paid homage to the victims of all past disasters, especially the victims of shocking earthquake of 8th October 2005. He also mentioned that ongoing Covid 19 pandemic has more than highlighted that disruptions in our social and economic routines have far reaching consequences. 

The Chief Guest Mr. Asad Umar Minister for Planning and Development and Special Initiatives said that I still remember the enormous response of nation after the 8th Oct earthquake; no one was concerned about the sect and religion of affected people, everyone was concerned about them as brothers and sisters. The Minister further said that need of the hour is to imbed disaster management in our national planning. We need to understand that the negative impacts of climate change will not stop here but grow immensely. We need to work on mitigation of disasters with emphasis on preparedness. We specially need to strengthen the NDRMF and provincial and local disaster management authorities. 

While speaking to the seminar Mr. Javed Jabbar former minister for information & broadcasting appreciated the spirit and resilience of Pakistani nation and said that Pakistan was born resilient.

On the occasion Syed Fakher Imam Federal minister for National Food Security and research on the occasion said that we need to take serious and responsible actions as we take during emergencies, for that we need to put consolidated efforts as a nation.

The Chief Guest of the closing session Dr. Faisal Sultan emphasized on the preparedness phase and said that more pandemics and epidemics may come, we need to bring reforms to strengthen our health sectors. Good governance and coordination among organizations is a must factor to deal with the disasters and health emergencies. 

At the end Chairman NDMA thanked the chief guests and eminent speakers for their valuable inputs/discussion and the suggested way forward for a disaster resilient Pakistan. 

Speakers included Mr. Javed Jabbar former minister for information & broadcasting, Mr. Julien Harnies UN Humanitarian Coordinator, Dr. Abid Qayyum Sulehri Executive Director, (SDPI), Ms. Huma Chughtai, Barrister Saad Rasool, Major General Amir Ikram NIH, Mr. Ali Tauqeer Sheikh, Dr. Sarosh Hashmi Lodhi VC NED Karachi, Dr. Farrukh SUPARO, Prof Dr. Ahmed Ali Gul UMT Lahore, Dr. Shahzad Ali Khan Dean & VC Health Services Academy, and Dr. Muhammad Umar VC Rawalpindi Medical University. 

Seminar was followed by an interesting question and answer session among the audience and speakers.

CHINA DONATES 200 MOBILE OXYGEN CONCENTRATORS TO PAKISTAN, OXYGEN CONCENTRATORS WERE HANDED OVER TO CHAIRMAN NDMA BY CHINA'S AMBASSADOR IN PAKISTAN

 

 

In a ceremony held here today, China donated 200 Mobile Oxygen concentrators to Pakistan. The oxygen concentrators were handed over to Chairman NDMA Lt Gen Akhtar Nawaz by China’s Ambassador in Pakistan His Excellency Mr Nong Rong.  The ceremony was attended by officials from Chinese Embassy, Ministry of Health, MOFA, and NDMA.  Speaking on Occasion Chairman NDMA on behalf of people and Government of Pakistan thanked people and Government of China for donation of Oxygen Concentrators.  Speaking on the occasion His Excellency Mr Nong Rong, Ambassador of China to Pakistan said that China Pakistan relations are growing stronger with passage of time.

APDIM’S FIFTH GOVERNING COUNCIL CONVENED ON 26 JANUARY 2021

The Fifth Session of the Governing Council of the Asian and Pacific Centre for the Development of Disaster Information Management (APDIM) was convened virtually on 26 January 2021, hosted by the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Lieutenant-General Akhtar Nawaz Satti, Chairman of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Chairman of APDIM Governing Council said in his opening remarks: “We attach high importance to the programmes and activities of APDIM”. He expressed Pakistan’s views that disaster risk reduction and management are essential measures to achieve SDGs and an important component of Pakistan’s DRR policy.

Dr. Seyed Hamid Pourmohammadi, Deputy Vice-president, Plan and Budget Organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran highlighted that “the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran is very pleased to note that the final steps for the operationalization of APDIM have been successfully taken with the recent conclusion of the Administrative and Financial Arrangements of APDIM with ESCAP.” He stressed on the importance of regional cooperation and partnership to achieve APDIM’s goals and objectives.

“It is highly encouraging to see the achievement APDIM has made since its establishment and particularly from the Fourth Session of its Governing Council,” said Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific. She added: “I am confident that the Islamic Republic of Iran’s commitment to contribute the highest amount given to any ESCAP regional institutions will ensure APDIM can truly make a difference in information management and risk reduction in the region.”

Ms. Letizia Rossano, Director of APDIM presented to the Council, the Reports on activities of the Centre since the Fourth Session of the Governing Council and its financial and administrative status as well as details of APDIM Multi-year Strategic Programme of Work (2020-2030) and Programme of work for 2021-2022. The Session acknowledged the reports and endorsed APDIM’s Strategic and biennium Programme of Work.

APDIM Governing Council elected the Islamic Republic of Iran as the Chair and Republic of Turkey as Vice-Chair for its new term until the next Session of the Council.

Delegates from the Governing Council member countries; Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Islamic Republic of Iran, Mongolia, Pakistan, and Turkey attended the Fifth Session of the Governing Council and delegates from Georgia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Turkmenistan attended the  Session as observers.

MONSOON REVIEW CONFERENCE 

Islamabad, 21st Jan, 2021:  A national level conference was organized by NDMA in Islamabad to review challenges faced by the country during Monsoon 2020 and measures required to be taken by all stakeholders to effectively deal with the challenges that might be faced during next Monsoon.

Lt Gen Akhtar Nawaz, Chairman NDMA chaired the conference. Relevant Officials from PDMAs, Federal Flood Commission, WAPDA, NHA, SUPARCO and Armed Forces participated in the conference and appraised the participants about state of preparedness and measures to be taken to deal with Monsoon Challenges.

Participants expressed resolve to work for risk awareness, risk mitigation, synergy amongst stakeholders and capacity building to effectively respond to potential challenges that might be posed by Monsoon.
